Club Grill Restaurant Cancun

Restaurant Cancun Club Grill Ritz Carlton

Club Grill Restaurant Cancun

Address: Ritz-Carlton Cancún, Blvd. Kukulcán, Km 13.5, Retorno del Rey 36, Zona Hotelera, Cancún

The Club Grill has re-created the upscale ambience of the swank 1960s with such details as a martini lounge, tuxedoed waiters, and live jazz complete with a double bass. A five-course tasting menu, paired with boutique Mexican wines, changes monthly. The dining room here is romantic and quietly elegant, with rich wood, fresh flowers, crisp linens, and courtyard views. The contemporary menu changes every three months, but might include starters like caramelized scallops and truffle corn soup, or main courses like tequila duck. For dessert, try the soufflé trio served with cups of liquid chocolate, coconut cream and Grand Marnier sauce. Like a waiters’ ballet, the delivery of domed silver platters is synchronized among the servers, making the entire dining experience an unforgettable one. To cap the evening, women are given a red rose and a box of truffles. Reservations at Club Grill Restaurant Cancun are recommended.

Cancun | Yamil Lu’um

Cancun Yamil Luum

Yamil Lu’um

Yamil Lu’um is located on Cancún’s highest point (the name means “hilly land”), this archaeological site is on the grounds of the Park Royal Cancún and Westin Lagunamar, which means that non-guests can only visit from the beach side. The concierges at either hotel may let you enter through their property if you ask nicely, but otherwise head to Playa Marlín and you can admire the ruins from a distance. Although it consists of two structures—one probably a temple, the other probably a lighthouse—this is the smallest of Cancún’s ruins. Discovered in 1842 by John Lloyd Stephens, the ruins date from the late 13th or early 14th century. Keep an eye out for roaming iguanas.

The secret to this restaurant’s success is its creative handling of Swiss and Italian cuisine. Be sure to try the carpaccio de pulpo (thin slices of fresh octopus), the cheese fondue, or the mesquite-grilled rib eye. Appetizers are also tempting: there’s puff bread from a wood-burning oven and a salad and antipasto bar. For something with a bit more local flavor, try the black ravioli stuffed with lobster or the restaurant’s specialty Gamberoni dei Re Maya: jumbo shrimp baked in banana leaves and topped with a special Mayan sauce. Entrees are served under silver domes, including the chef’s specials that change monthly. The restaurant also has an extensive wine list and a wine bar. The beautiful dining room and attentive service might make you want to stay for hours, and there are pleasant lagoon views from the spacious patio.

Cancun History

cancun 1970

Cancun began as a tourism project in 1974. Since then, it has undergone a comprehensive transformation from being a fisherman’s island surrounded by virgin forest and undiscovered shores to being one of the two most well-known Mexican resorts, like Acapulco on the west pacific coast. The majority of local ‘Cancúnenses’ are from Yucatán and other Mexican states. A growing number are from the rest of the Americas and Europe. The municipal authorities have struggled to provide public services for the constant arrival of new residents. The above photo was taken in 1970 and compared to the below image, taken in the exact same spot, the development of Cancun is obvious.

Cancun Today

Apart from the island tourist zone which is also home to the world’s second-longest coral reef, the Mexican residential section of the city, the downtown part of which is known as “El Centro”. The residential roads of central or ‘Mainland’ Cancun, U-shaped and culs-de-sacs, insulate housing from the noise and congestion of the main flow of traffic. The center of Cancun has a central market that resembles an outlet mall, colorful buildings on pedestrian zones. The main ferry to Isla Mujeres is located in Puerto Juarez, on Ave. Paseo José López Portillo.

El Rincón del Vino

Given that El Rincón del Vino (Wine Corner in English) is a wine & tapas bar, it naturally attracts a mature crowd that wants a break from the seemingly non-stop discos in the tourist strip. As opposed to dance music, El Rincón offers live trova, rumba, flamenco, and jazz music for its patrons. The bar boasts 250 varieties of wines from the world’s major wine-making regions. El Rincón del Vino also holds occasional art exhibits.
